Recently Tracy from Griffen Fitness in Edinburgh reviewed PURE Spa at Ocean Terminal. Heres what she had to say about her ‘mellow Monday afternoon’:
“At a Business conference in Parliament recently I met Becky Woodhouse, the MD of Edinburgh-based Pure Spa. She was keen to see my Healthy Living Yearbook, and I was equally keen to try their urban spa. Mondays are always hectic for any small business owner, and so I left it until the last minute to leave for my Pure Spa appointment. I hadn’t notice the heavy rain come on, so it was a very wet speedy bike ride to Ocean Terminal shopping centre to make it in time. Dripping my waterproof trousers through the mall to the top floor, I thought it would take a minor miracle to relax me.
I was ushered into a changing room where I slipped off my soggy togs and slipped into a warm fluffy gown. It was a pleasure to wait in their relaxation area and read a glamour magazine whilst supping on herbal tea (although I was still thinking of all the emails I should’ve been sending). The first stage of my treatment was the infrared sauna, housed in a treatment room in a wee wooden cabin. I lay down on the comfy towels and prepared to relax. It was unlike any sauna I’ve ever had, as the infrared heated up my body, whilst the surrounding air seemed to stay at about room temperature. Add to this there were a couple of colourful LED lights that made patterns as a Maroon 5 album played in the background. I have no idea how long I lay there, but I did build up a good sweat and heard five Maroon 5 songs (I counted). A quick shower later, I was back in the relaxation room awaiting my therapist.
Therapist Thara greeted me and in the comfort of the therapy room, washed my feet in a bowl of warm water, followed by an exfoliation. I then lay on a soft massage bed, and was treated to the Thai bundle back massage, described in the leaflet as “a detoxifying and uplifting massage using steamed herbal compresses”. After cycling 175km on the weekend, my back was in need of a bit of TLC. Despite my rather stressed out state earlier in the afternoon, I found myself unwinding and indeed, dozed off at one point. Thara was a skilled masseur, and the bowl of scented oils that was wafting around the room added to the atmosphere. I felt completely chilled out when returning to the relaxation room to readjust to the land of the living. I was surprised to see customers using mobile phones (silently) in the relaxation room; it reminded me that I had to get back to work. So with a mellow kind of feeling, I got changed, floated out, and thankfully missed the rain on my way back to the office. Thank you Pure Spa for one of the most chilled Monday afternoons I’ve had in many moons”.
