Eyebrow care: the perfect schedule

Eyebrows — two defining aspects of your face.  More and more, they’re becoming just as much of a ‘natural’ accessory as your eyes themselves (well, natural looking…)

Back in the 80s and 90s, bushy brows were a fashion faux pas. They were tweezed and attacked until they were thin arches… with baby blue eyeshadow usually. What was with that?

Nowadays, eyebrows are a lot more varied in size. Some are shaped and subtle, others are dark and bold (like our Hi Brows).  Tweezing, waxing, plucking, trimming and tinting… brows go through a lot! And it’s difficult to know when to do each of these things.

With so much choice and so many things you can do, we asked Lyn McCartney (Group Training Manager at the PURE Training Academy) for an easy-tweezy eyebrow maintenance schedule…

To ensure you brows are always in shape, go by the following:

  • Eyebrow shaping: Approximately 3-4 weeks.
  • Tweezing: Only when you need to tidy any strays; don’t overdo it!
  • Waxing: Every 3-4 weeks.
  • Tinting: Our tint will last up to 6 weeks, depending on how fast your brows grow.
  • Growth Serum: If you’re growing your brows, we sell Hi Brow Growth Serum, which is used daily.

Your face is as unique as the rest of you, so our therapists will analyse your face and tailor our treatments to best suit your face! To see all of our available eye enhancements, visit our website or ask our therapists what they would recommend.

Professional Mums: Balancing Career & Family

by Victoria Mortimer, Corporate Partnerships Executive for Club PURE for business.

I thought I’d start this discussion close to home. Well, work to be exact. I have asked our gorgeous, hard-working PURE team some probing questions about how they fit everything in life into their daily lives.

Maybe you can relate, or perhaps have some tips and pointers you have acquired over the years that you would like to share. Wisdom from peers is always valuable so please feel free to put in your two cents, as I’m sure it will be priceless to most.

I have asked a selection of PURE members who are all in different roles with different working hours to see how, if at all, their answers vary. I’m a mother of one (soon to be two!), and it’s interesting to see how it all matched up.

So, who’s in my panel with me?

  • Becky: CEO, mother of two (Edinburgh).
  • Rachel: Head Office Manager, step-mother of one, (Edinburgh).
  • Joanna: Customer Services, mother of one (Edinburgh).
  • Lesley: Therapist, mother of one (Glasgow)

Nailed it! — Leighton Denny Masterclass recap

Jet-setting across the country, conducting interviews with the press… then giving a masterclass to the beauty queens of Glasgow? It’s not easy being a celebrity nail expert!

Last night, we were thrilled to welcome Leighton Denny MBE to our newest spa at PURE West Nile Street, Glasgow. Sharing tips, tricks and discussing all things beauty, we can safely say he ‘nailed’ the event. Get it? #SorryNotSorry

Before the event…

Although the event started at 18:30, Leighton joined our team at PURE West Nile Street in the early afternoon. Before getting ready for the event, he had some fantastic interviews and photos with the press… again, we say: “it’s not easy being a celebrity nail expert!”

We also had the opportunity to pick Leighton’s brain before our clients joined us for the main event..

PURE Training Academy — Q&A

group-training-manager-lynOffering the same premier training as we do our own staff, we recently launched the PURE Training Academy, an SQA-accredited facility offering day courses. These are ideal for adding to your CV or accrediting yourself as an independent therapist.

Want to know more? We caught up with Lyn McCartney, Group Training Manager and the gorgeous lady behind the PURE Training Academy.

How long have you been with PURE Spa & Beauty? Have you always been Group Training Manager?

I started with the company in 2007, so this is my 8th year here. I came straight from college and worked as a therapist in Ocean Terminal. I’ve held several positions within the company, becoming a senior, head therapist, and eventually becoming manager of PURE Lothian Road in 2010.

I progressed to my current role as Group Training Manager in September 2014, creating all the training manuals and leading our SQA Accreditation so that the PURE Training Academy could launch.

The PURE Training Academy is “SQA accredited”. What does that mean?

It means that we have the approval to offer specific qualifications in our training centre, offering candidates an alternative to attending college.

Becoming accredited is a strict two stage process where we had to demonstrate to the SQA that we have the management structure and quality assurance systems to support the delivery, assessment and internal verification of a SQA qualification.

What courses are available at the moment? How do these compare to other qualifications?

We are currently offering three full day courses: Manicure, Pedicure and Spray Tan. These are great for people looking to add to their qualifications, or looking for a change in career. Each courses is available at £200 + VAT (with discount available for those booking in for all three).

After successful completion of the course you will be granted with a recognised PURE Spa & Beauty certificate.
