Elemis Biotec — the next generation of facials

At PURE, we pride ourselves on giving you the best possible treatments available, which is why we’re so excited to launch Elemis Biotec — the next generation of facials. Bridging the gap between a hands-on facial and cosmetic / non-invasive procedures, Elemis has combined a therapist’s touch with the power of technology.

As Scotland’s first provider of Elemis Biotec, we wanted to answer all your questions. It’s not rocket science, though there’s science throughout!

Defined by nature. Led by science.

To deliver a new generation of facials, Elemis Biotec uses bio-electric technology to reboot cellular performance: it stimulates unresponsive cells, enhancing your skin’s ability to repair and renew itself.

Working in perfect synergy with the skin’s natural bio-electric field, Elemis BIOTEC delivers seven uniquely customisable, clinically proven facials for every skin type, powered by five treatment technologies, each one providing powerful and measurable results. In independent clinical trials, Elemis BIOTEC Triple-Tec Anti Wrinkle Facial delivered impressive results after just one treatment!elemis-stats

At the heart of each clinically proven BIOTEC facial is Elemis’ Skin Lift Touch. Harnessing the power of hands-on therapy, it helps to soften and prepare the skin, improving its ability to absorb the actives more effectively.

The high-potency activators provide a complex of powerful plant actives, peptides, antioxidants and essential oils formulated to provide the catalytic power behind the facials and penetrate deep into the skin. Hydra-Active Gel Masks for the face and eyes deliver super hydration and a luxurious Amber Massage Balm stimulates specific skin responses for maximum results.

Q&A with PURE Beauty Therapy Students

three

For all of us, it can be daunting choosing a career path. There can be doubts, a little bit of confusion and — of course — there is a stark difference between learning on the job and learning in a classroom. At PURE, we believe in helping new beauty/spa therapists launch their professional career and take it to a higher level.

Recently, we had three students join the PURE team. At Silverburn, we offered 6-month placements to Roxanne and Paula; two Beauty Therapy students at North Ayrshire College. At Union Square, we were joined by Ashton on a permanent part-time basis alongside her studies at Aberdeen College.

We thought it was a great opportunity to ask them a few questions…

facaaaailWhat drew you to the beauty/spa industry?

Roxanne: “I was a lifeguard for 12 years and decided I wanted a change. I chose beauty as I love to be pampered and wanted to give others that too. I wanted to have that expertise. Plus, the industry really excites me.”

Paula: “Since I was young, I always enjoyed doing nails, make-up and so on. I loved experimenting with it. I am quite a creative person and I enjoy learning all the different treatments, too.”

Ashton: “Looking at magazines and books, then doing Level 2 Beauty at Aberdeen College.”

Tell us your favourite treatment and why you like it.

Roxanne: “To receive? Massages. It gives me time to myself and enables me to relax. It relieves tension from my day to day life!”

Paula: “My favourite treatment to give is waxing. There’s something about seeing the instant results that really appeals to me for some reason!”

Ashton: “Facials are so relaxing, both for clients receiving them and therapists performing them!”

What made you apply to PURE Spa & Beauty?

Roxanne: “I thought it would be a great opportunity and a great place to hone my beauty knowledge and how a spa/salon operates. I also wanted to learn different techniques and tips from other therapists.”

Paula: “I applied to PURE as it’s a great opportunity to get real, hands-on training. I could get a feel for what it’s like working in a true spa environment, and also wanted to prove myself and develop my skills alongside college.”

Ashton: “I heard about PURE from a friend at college, then again via an advert on the radio. I applied, sent in my CV, then passed the interview! I was lucky enough to be offered a permanent, part-time position even though I’m still at college. I can train whilst working.”

multiWhat are you getting from the experience?

Roxanne: “Learning day to day operations of a real spa/salon is so different to college. My placement is a great place to learn. For instance, my weakest area is giving manicures, so the learning experience is really beneficial.”

Paula: “I am loving the experience and everyone is so helpful and friendly. I am interested in all the different treatments PURE offers, and I am keen to take on all the advice they can give me during my placement.”

Ashton: “I’m grateful to learn how the beauty industry works. You really need to work hard to be successful — therapists are often under estimated!”

Sum up your experience so far!

Roxanne: “I have really enjoyed the experience. It’s such a great way to learn.”

Paula: “It has been so fast-paced and I’m enjoying my daily tasks. I’m also learning about the reception side of a spa, which I like.”

Ashton: “It’s amazing! I’m so glad I got this opportunity.”

If you had one bit of advice to pass on to those going into the industry, what would it be?

Roxanne: “Believe in yourself. Enjoy the experience. Have fun!”

Paula: “I would tell them that an opportunity like this is a must. It’s a real eye-opener and I’m just so grateful to have been given it.”

Ashton: “Complete Level 3 Beauty at college, then hopefully work full-time at PURE as a therapist!”

“I must have been an Egyptian Princess”

opening

This week, PURE Spa Silverburn had the pleasure of welcoming Vicky Pitchers — owner of boutique PR agency, VJP Media. Having worked in broadcasting and events for more than a decade, she knows two things: how to give an honest massage review and how to compare it to everything else she’s come across!

“I must have been an Egyptian Princess”
by Vicky Pitchers

I must have been an Egyptian princess in a former life because I love having a massage. Most people could say that however I spend more on massage and reflexology in a month than I do on clothes! I also lucked out big time with my fiancé, who just happens to love giving a massage, so you can imagine my excitement when asked to try out PURE Spa & Beauty within Silverburn Shopping Centre. To make the most my afternoon I went to the gym beforehand so my body was more than ready for some pampering and relaxation.

sidebarThere is truth in the old adage “first impressions last”, 2 days later and I am still daydreaming about it! After a warm welcome I was taken to the changing area to swap my clothes for a fluffy towelling robe and slippers before heading into the relaxation area. The spa is deceptively large, however the décor, lighting and music give it an intimate luxurious feel.

My therapist, Siobhan, explained my treatments whilst washing and exfoliating my feet. At 5’ 11’ I find most massage tables too short or too narrow, but not today! The bed was huge, heated and very comfortable. I started with a neck, back and shoulder massage so was asked to lay face down. 10 out of 10 for attention to detail, this was the first time I have seen a bowl of scented petals in water underneath the face cradle of the bed. Whilst Siobhan worked her magic on my back, the petals worked their magic on my nose!

Second, first for me came when Siobhan used warm oil for my massage. I tend to pay for the pain end of the pleasure spectrum when it comes to a massage (usually the sports variety to pummel my aching muscles), so expected the treatment to work on my mind rather than my body. Siobhan’s forearms managed to find the knots with surprising precision and after applying Instant Refreshing Gel to heat the muscles, I turned over for my facial.

I have sensitive skin so usually steer clear of facials lest I leave then salon looking like a baboon. Thankfully the Elemis products felt and smelt delicious which put me at ease. I had the Modern Skin Booster Facial which included cleanse, massage, exfoliation, mask and….well to be honest I can’t remember. I was so relaxed.

I liked the fact that Siobhan explained what she was going to use before the treatments began; it meant I could really switch off and didn’t feel like I was being interrupted or sold to when she applied each new product – an unfortunate habit in many salons. My third first came at the end of the facial, which was signalled by a single note from the Tingsha Tibetan meditation chimes. As a yoga teacher, I LOVED this.

My skin usually feels clogged and laden with product after a facial; it didn’t with the Elemis products. 2 days later there is no breakout and it still feels peachy. As for my neck and shoulder they have dropped an inch. I loved every minute of my afternoon at PURE, it is an oasis in Silverburn Shopping Centre. If I was an Egyptian princess in a former life, my afternoon at PURE was most definitely a trip back in time.

First time tanning

jpeg

In our second “Spa & Beauty Virgin” article, we’re tackling winter/spring pale and pastiness with a complete run-down on our exclusive Sunbelievable sunless tanning services (by Leighton Denny). If you’ve never bronzed before, there are a few things you should bear in mind… that way, you won’t leave orange hand prints everywhere you go.

What is the difference between spray and lotion tans?  Which one is better?

The difference is exactly as it reads, one is sprayed onto you and the other is a lotion that is rubbed onto your skin. Neither is better than the other – it’s mainly personal preference. Yhe spray is a much faster method of application compared to the lotion… so for time starved people, this usually makes it the most popular! But the result is mainly the same.

What should I do to prepare for my tanning?

Ensure that you start to exfoliate your skin in the 3 days prior to your tanning appointment. This will lift off all the dead skin cells and leave your skin feeling silky smooth. After this, keep your skin hydrated and nourished.

On the day of your tan, try to come into the salon straight from the shower. Perish the thought of leaving the house with no make-up, moisturiser, deodorant or perfume on – but it’s the best way to achieve maximum results!

Ensure you bring some loose dark clothes and flip flops with you to make sure that your tan is not smudged by closed toed shoes and socks. Once you are here, we will apply some moisturiser to the drier areas of your body and apply your tan.

When is the best time?

As with many things, this depends. If you like to look  bronzed all year round, it really is whenever (though don’t overdo it!). For those who like to tan up for an event, it is best to come in 2 days before. This means you can go darker if you wish, or if you feel you need a touch-up.  Bear in mind that your fake tan will deepen in colour for up to 24 hours

Will my Sunbelievable tan come off? i.e. in the shower

In the words of Leighton Denny: “No!” (well it really is that simple!). Colour is temporary, so your sunless colour will gradually fade just like a sun tan but slightly faster. Naturally, there are a few things to avoid…

  • Avoid hair removal: waxing, shaving, depilatory hair removers.
  • Certain skin products, namely products with alcohol, retinol, witch hazel, AHAs and acne products (those with benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid).
  • Avoid scrubbing/exfoliating products. Scrubs and masks can and will strip the tan from your skin, as will salt water and chlorine.
  • Do not rub your skin with a towel to dry off; gently pat.

Part of Club PURE? Meet our new Corporate Partnerships Executive

club pure victoria mortimer

This week, we’re proud to introduce the newest member of our team, Victoria Mortimer.

As the new Corporate Partners Executive for PURE Spa & Beauty, I am super excited to introduce myself and my aspirations for the company. I’ve been with the team for only a week so far, but already it’s clear that the team are passionate about you – our clients.

I cannot wait to grow alongside this team and I’m excited for all the things to come. Whilst I’ll be focusing on our corporate scheme, Club PURE, I can promise you we have exciting things to come!

Having an extensive background in large corporations, I understand the stress working life can have on staff at all levels. I believe that  taking the time to look after yourself is a crucial element to maintaining that oh-so-important, oh-so-forgotten work/life balance. As a working mum, I know this can be a struggle… but I put my heels on and keep on strutting just like the rest of us!

Time out makes such a difference when switching between work and home life and sometimes we forget to leave one behind and I believe this is key; keep your mind clear of any distractions. A mini facial on my lunch break or a deluxe massage before heading home is a great way for me to unwind. I can take time out to reboot before heading off to my next task, be it for a meeting or going home to start the family dinner.

This is where PURE Spa & Beauty excels most. It’s a spa on your doorstep; you don’t need to take time off for an overnight stay in the countryside. You can pop along for an hour or so and reap the benefits in a fraction of the time!

With Club PURE for business, I am confident that companies who are signed up will have happier employees. With discounts on treatments during every visit, it’s easier than ever for modern professionals to take time out for themselves. We live to provide personal and professional success.

We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is PURE, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves. (Buddhist phrase)
