Summer Skin Care: Body & Face

We’re at that exciting midsummer point, where everyone is off on their holidays, laying in the park, spending lots of time with family and generally picking up a nice tan!

However, if you look around a bit, you’ll often notice that the effects of too much sunshine (“too much?! I wish!” I hear you Scots cry..) can have a detrimental effect on your skin. These effects can sometimes be long-lasting and lead to premature ageing, sun spots and sun-stroke (amongst other more serious problems). So, this is a little Summer Skin Care post with suggestions on how to keep you looking great, feeling great and getting on to enjoy those precious few rays of sunshine we’re getting in Britain!

Summer Skin Body Prep

When it comes to prepping your body for sun exposure, it’s worth grabbing some essential beauty tools & products together to scrub, polish & buff, moisturise and leave your body with a lovely sheen!

The products above are a small selection of PURE Spa & Beauty’s favourites to get that body ready to glow!

Run yourself a nice warm bath with some REN Moroccan Rose Bath Oil for ultimate luxury, light a couple of candles and get all prepared for your bath. Grab your body brush and gently brush up your body in long strokes, starting from your feet and aiming towards your heart. Body brushing is the best way of improving circulation, so make it a part of your day!

For best results, next use the Elemis Frangipani Monoi Salt Glow on to dry skin. Grab a handful of the scrub and massage it in circular motions all over your body. Dry skin is best, but it is also great on damp skin in the bath if you just can’t wait!

Enjoy your soak for a while. Once out of the bath, slather over your usual body cream (we suggest the REN Moroccan Rose Otto Body Cream to get you smelling of roses!) and rub on the Elemis Treat Your Feet Foot Cream.

Now your body’s all sorted, what about your face? After all, this is the first place people will see, so you don’t want to end up with a slick, oily T-Zone and dehydrated, dull skin..

First, give your face a wash with the REN Micro Polish Cleanser. This will remove the outer layer of dead skin, allowing your latter products to do their job properly.

With the REN Glycolactic Mask, smooth it on to clean, dry skin and let it sit for 10 minutes. There may be a little tingling but this is usually normal! (If in doubt, or your skin is particularly sensitive, do a patch test 24 hours beforehand.) Rinse off the mask, pat your skin dry and reveal that newly radiant complexion!

Everyone’s favourite best-selling Elemis product – the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream – is an obvious next step. Packed with marine algae extracts, it can increase skin hydration by up to 10% and combats wrinkle depth. Massage it in all over your face and allow it to sink in.

Follow with the REN Active 7 Radiant Eye Gel, patted on with your ring finger under the eye area. Never go too close to the inner eye, as the product will naturally spread out anyway, and too much product at eye level will aggravate the eyes. Follow the natural line of your eye socket.

Finally – the holy grail summer skin care product! The Elemis Liquid Layer Sun Block (SPF 30). With a medium-high SPF rating, this facial sunscreen is the single best product you should shell out on this summer. Don’t let those harmful UVA & UVB rays ruin your holiday! And remember to stock up on body SPF too!!

Here’s what our previous treatment spotlight review said:

“Firstly, the length of the lashes is completely up to you. PURE Spa stocks a range of lash lengths so whether you are looking for fuller or longer lashes our therapists will be able to give you the look you want. See the before and after pictures below.

Your eye area will be treated with make-up remover to make sure that all remains of eye make-up are removed. The individual lashes are applied using a lash adhesive which ensures that they will stay secure for up to 2-3 weeks! After application lashes are sealed with professional lash sealant. This will make sure that your new lashes are protected for as long as possible.

Here are PURE Spas top tips to lash perfection:

Be careful not to put water on your lashes for up to 24hours after your treatment. This can affect the lash sealer and therefore risk the lashes falling out

The use of eye make-up is not necessary while your lashes are on (they will be thicker and more defined already) but if you do use mascara etc make sure that it is removed with oil free make-up remover. This will make sure that there is less chance of unwanted lash loss

Lash extensions should not be removed yourself. This can cause your natural lashes to drop out too. If you would like them removed please contact a PURE Spa salon or you can leave your lash extensions to fall out completely naturally

Blink & Go individual lash extensions can last for up to 2-3 weeks but this depends on how you care for your new lashes. If you follow the tips above you should have no problems keeping your fuller and longer lashes for your entire holiday!”

Hey PURE Spa fans!

Today, for our Beach Body Beautiful campaign, we have the lovely Marie-Claire – our Spa Manager at Ocean Terminal – telling her side of the story on her decision to pursue her health & fitness goals!

So, here she is..

Marie-Claire

I have always had a keen interest in well-being, from an early age I have ridden a bike come rain or shine; something that has been passed down from my father who refused to drive a car unless it was to take one of us somewhere when we were children. Cycling around Edinburgh isn’t for the faint hearted and has always proved somewhat of a challenge trying to navigate the hills and buses. Weather and traffic aside it is a great way to keep in shape and get some fresh air into your lungs, especially during the summer months.

Most of my background lies in hospitality so as well as cycling to and from work every day, I would spend the best part of 40+ hours on my feet, usually running!! During this time I did not really have to think about my weight – I was young, fit and healthy. In my late 20’s I decided to have a career change and moved into marketing. Whilst I loved my time in the various positions I undertook, I hated being stuck at a desk. I felt like a caged bird and I missed the continual movement you get working on your feet. Over a 5 year period, 2 stone in weight crept on and it was not until I saw my wedding photos that I decided enough was enough…brides are supposed to lose weight not be at their heaviest!! A year or so after getting married I started working for Pure Spa and Beauty – I was back in the service industry and back on my feet!

Although working on my feet has had an impact on my weight I am not as young as I used to be. With Pure Gym in Ocean Terminal I decided it was time I became a member of a gym. Pure Gym is great for first timers, the facilities are clean, easy to use and the staff are extremely friendly and talented. There really is no excuse for any of us working in the centre not to be active members. I have encouraged my team to join and have developed a good working relationship with the staff at Pure Gym, allowing the girls to feel comfortable when they train. It was through developing this relationship that the idea for Beach Body Beautiful was created.

Whilst developing the BBB program and seeing Karla’s amazing success in her weight loss journey, the rest of the team decided it would be good to commit to getting fit and losing inches. This has had a really positive impact on us all. Not only do we all feel more energised but there is also a sense of being part of a team. I have definitely seen a boost in team morale and also productivity. Everyone seems enthusiastic about coming to work and getting stuck in; this will be key in the winter months when daylight is an issue!

I look forward to seeing all the success stories over the coming months and do hope that we inspire some of our customers to make positive changes too. I am very proud of the commitment the team has shown so far and know I will be even prouder when we reach our goals together.

Rough, Gruff Yet Totally Willing – Our Web Development Intern Gets a Treatment

For today’s #TreatmentThursday we have Dean, our Web Development Intern, giving the lowdown on his first-time experience at PURE Spa. Hopefully it’ll encourage some of you reluctant nervous guys to go for your first spa treatment at PURE! So this is his experience of the Time for Men treatment..

Dean’s Perspective

As a guy, I can safely say I’ve never even thought about going for a Spa treatment. I’ve never really felt any stigma towards it, or that I shouldn’t be doing it. It’s just relaxation was never really a big priority for me and truth be told – I didn’t understand the hype.

When the opportunity came around to try a treatment I thought I’d give it a go and opted for the ‘Time out for Men‘.

One thing that surprised me though is that at no point did I ever feel uncomfortable or awkward. When it comes down to it, you’re lying face down on a massage table in your underwear with a stranger massaging you. It’s not as uncomfortable as it sounds!

I was always made to feel comfortable by my therapist and at one point I almost fell asleep.

The whole experience; lighting, music, scents all adds up and just made me feel really relaxed.

My facial was great too and my skin felt thoroughly cleansed and refreshed.
The time flew by – my only complaint is that it was so good I never wanted it to end!
I’m definitely a believer now. If you haven’t been for a treatment, go. If you have, go again.
