Okay, so you’ve never had a massage. It’s nothing to be ashamed of. It’s just… you’re missing out. A lot.
For the ‘converted’, it’s hard for us to imagine life without ever having a massage. So, let’s discuss the best addiction possible with a few questions…
What are the benefits of massage?
Providing both short-term and long-term effects, a massage is ideal for getting your body in shape again.
- Reduces muscular tension and pain, improving mobility.
- Great for aiding recovery on swollen muscles.
- Improves circulation and releases endorphins.
- Improving lymphatic drainage (which carries toxins away from the tissues).
Okay, but what actually happens?
As always, we suggest you arrive early for your appointment. Whether it is an express massage or a spa massage, your therapist will introduce themselves and take you to the treatment room.
They will give you a consultation, where you can raise any issues of concern and voice your preferences on pressure. Once you become a regular, you’ll be saying things like “I love when the hot stones are used on my spine with a deep pressure”. You’ll get the lingo.
Afterwards, your therapist will leave you to get changed and climb into our heated beds. They’ll return with a knock, and start working their magic using warm oils.
What massage is best for me?
Whether you suffer from chronic back ache or that oh-so-common ‘desk shoulders’, we have a massage and technique that’s suited for you.
If you like a firm massage and are laying there thinking “over a bit… over a bit… not quite…” all you have to do is say something! We know people have different needs and ‘good pain’ thresholds, so don’t be afraid to speak up.
If you’ve never had a massage before, we recommend our best-selling favourite, the Deluxe Massage. This is a focused massage tailored to your own needs, working on the back, neck and shoulders. We’ve also got 30min. booster therapies available with a slight twist on the traditional massage!
Once we’ve got you longing for something more, we always recommend indulging yourself with one of our full body spa massages. Like a deep pressure? Try our Deep Tissue massage, ideal for those with physical lives. Or is heat therapy more your thing? You’ve seen hot stones all the time; why not try it?
Do I need to prepare for a massage?
Generally speaking, you do not have to prepare for a massage. However, if you’re looking for mental relaxation as well as the physical benefits, it’s best to relax first. We’re all for slotting a massage into your hectic life, but maybe chill for a little before and afterwards to enjoy the ‘me time’.
Additionally, heat therapy is beneficial to the muscles, warming them up and allowing for the muscle to be worked on more easily. Add an infra-red sauna detox for only £10 before any of our massages for the best results. Half an hour in there, and you’ll feel loose (and burn up to 800 calories!)
Afterwards, make sure you drink plenty of water. Massage encourages blood flow and the release of toxins. In short, this means your body will need plenty of fluids to keep you healthy! Otherwise, you may get a headache.
